FitTrack Scale: A comprehensive review

For the past few years, ordinary scales have been criticised for the inability to provide accurate readings. You may be wondering how’s that possible? What is Fittrack scale?

How does FitTrack Scale work?

As you can see in the image above, there are 4 metal electrodes placed strategically on the top of the scale. The power lies in those 4 electrodes as these perform so called bioelectrical Impedance Analysis (BIA). What this means is that the 4 electrodes will send signals, also known as electrical currents, through your body to detect muscle mass and fat mass. Muscle and fat mass are detected when the signals travel through your body, the signals move through muscle mass a lot easier whereas fat mass obstructs and slows the signals. So, this is how the electrical currents differentiate between muscle mass and fat mass.

This is a great feature and I personally find this to be amazing! Why? Whenever you make body changes, whether it is to lose weight or gain muscle mass, you can now track your muscle mass changes with this scale. You may be wondering why this is important but just visualise this, if you’re looking to be toned and you’ve started your weight loss dieting and exercise regime you’ll find that during your caloric restrictions you muscle can be broken down so it can be used to fuel your workouts. This can cause your muscle to shrink and become softer. With the FitTrack Scale you can track your muscle changes, which means that you can make changes in time before it is too late.

3. Ensures you stay hydrated

In addition to displaying your body composition, it calculated how much water you should be drinking per day. This ensures that based on your body type and exercise you perform in a day, you will always stay hydrated.

How accurate is FitTrack Scale?

The accuracy of the Fittrack scale is mostly based on the Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis. In other words, it relies heavily on the electrical currents that are sent through your body detecting your muscle and fat mass. The readings are affected by the environment, ethnicity, exercise, phase of menstrual cycle and certain underlying medical conditions.

For instance, one study found that exercise increases cardiac output and vascular perfusion which increases blood flow to the muscle. As a result, muscles become warmer and decreases muscle resistance which results in reduced impedance.

A different study found that dehydration can also influence the readings. The study found that dehydration increases resistance by 40 Ω which can result in a 5kg underestimation. This may be the reason why the Fit track Scale also measures your water needs.

Environmental factors may sound like a strange factor to affect the electrical currents but it is due to the effects of temperature changes on your skin temperature and blood flow. Some studies have found impedance increase with low temperature and a decrease with an increase to skin temperature. For instance, this study observed 8% change in resistance with 8.4°C change in skin temperature. This may be caused due to the effects of temperature changes on blood flow.

In addition, ethnicity may also be an unusual factor but if you consider the different minority groups then it is fair to say we are all different. I am not referring to skin colour of course but rather the way fat is deposited, bone density, limbs structure and length. This can also affect the electrical currents based on variety of studies found in this article.


The Fit Track Scale is certainly an upgrade to the traditional scales. I personally recommend this scale over the traditional scales as these give you a better reading into your fat and muscle mass.
